My employee asked for holiday at such short notice that I wasn’t able to give them the time off. They have now said they will take a day sick instead. What can I do?
Speak to the employee and explain why you have turned down their request for holiday. Explain that you have heard the employee may be intending to take the day off sick instead and that if that were to happen, the sickness absence would be fully investigated and the employee may be required to provide evidence of the sickness absence in the form of a GPs fit note.
