Does the employee have to call me every day they are sick?
Yes unless they have told you on the first day that they will be absent for a specific period. Ask the employee to make sure they call you the morning before they are due to return to work to give you an indication of whether or not they will be returning the following day.
Why should I have a sickness absence reporting procedure?
It’s important that you know as early as possible if someone is going to be absent so that you can plan around their absence. It’s equally important that everybody has to follow the same procedure for notifying you if they are not fit for work so that anyone who fails to adhere to your procedure can be held to account.
