How do I extend the probationary period?
Explain to the employee that they are close to the required standard but not quite there (you should be able to provide evidence) so you are extending the probationary period. How much you extend it by depends on how close the employee is to reaching the required standard. Confirm your decision in writing.
Can I dismiss at the end of an extended probationary period?
Yes – if you have extended the probationary period the employee is still on probation so you can dismiss them for unsatisfactory completion of the probationary period.
